Each portrait is a collaboration between Emily Orling and her client.  She works with them to gain insight into the subjects particular personality.  She carefully uses color, texture and symbolism to reflect the character and spirit.  Typically Emily works from photos she takes herself, In some circumstances it is necessary to use an already existing photo.  Every painting occurs as a process.  In the beginning Emily is hesitant to commit to an exact composition.  She believes that through flexibility and a willingness to know her subject the most accurate, sensitive painting will emerge.
